Do I have to come in for an in-office appointment?
Maybe. Some insurance company policies and certain medication prescribing requirements require in-person appointments. Please inquire with the main office at 586-863-4000, select option 3 for the Intake Department.
What is the difference between Psychiatric Medication Management services and Talk Therapy services?
Psychiatric Medication Management focuses on using prescription drugs to balance brain chemistry for symptom relief, while Talk Therapy, also called psychotherapy, uses conversation with therapists, social workers, psychologists, or counselors to explore thoughts, behaviors, and emotions, build coping skills, and address underlying issues. The best approach is often a combination of both for comprehensive care.
How long will I be in talk therapy treatment?
At Helios, we tailor each treatment plan to the individual patient, which means that the length of treatment depends on each individual's needs.
Can I choose which provider I will see at Helios?
We try our best to match you with a provider who meets your personal and scheduling preferences and has open availability. However, sometimes due to insurance issues, scheduling conflicts, or if a clinical provider's caseload is at capacity, we may not be able to offer your initial choice in provider. We will do our best to explain what we can provide within Helios or through an external referral to another clinic.
What if I do not like my provider?
At Helios, we want to ensure all patients have a connection with their provider. If you do not feel that connection forming, please contact the main office at 586-863-4000 and let a staff member know that you would like to be transferred either to another Medication Management Provider or Talk Therapist. You will be asked questions about the type of provider you are looking for, and we will try to match you appropriately.
What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a structured, 8-phase psychotherapy designed to alleviate distress from traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, taps, or tones, while focusing on disturbing events. It helps the brain reprocess memories, replacing negative beliefs with positive ones without requiring detailed, extended trauma talk.
What is Family therapy, and do I need my whole family present?
Yes, for a Family Therapy session, it is recommended that the entire family be present. If a patient is interested in having just one family member attend a talk therapy session, we are able to accommodate; however, this is considered Individual Therapy from a Family Systems Perspective.
What is TMS?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells to improve symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions.
What is Spravato treatment?
Spravato is an FDA-approved nasal spray for use in treatment-resistant depression that is administered in office under the supervision of a prescriber.

Are pets allowed in the clinic?
Following ADA guidelines, all trained service animals are allowed in the clinic once staff verify that the animal is trained to do a specific task that meets humanitarian requirements for safety reasons. We ask patients with trained service animals to inform Helios prior to bringing them to the clinic so appropriate accommodations can be made.
Helios does not allow Emotional Support Animals in the clinic as we adhere to Trauma Informed Care practices and believe in creating a safe setting for all persons who come to the clinic office.
If I leave Helios, can I still get medication refills?
Once a patient is discharged from the Medication Management line of service, the provider may elect to provide a 3-month supply of medications to allow for adequate replacement services to be found. This may vary based on the type of medication being prescribed and the details surrounding the reason for discharge.
How long does it take for a provider to call me back?
Our clinical providers work with trained Medical Assistants and Reception staff to help provide a rapid response. A clinical provider will try to respond to patient inquiries as soon as they are able; typical response time is 24-48 business hours, with variations based on the individual provider's schedule.
